At 2:30 pm this afternoon, with a long siren, the large scale seagoing Beijiang No.1 ship which

was loaded with more than 40,000 tons of crude oil was undergoing a river crossing operation

at the Qixia oil tanker anchorage. The oil pipeline burst suddenly... Jiangsu held a comprehensive

water search and rescue drill. It was hosted by Jiangsu Province Organized by the Water Search

and Rescue Center, Jiangsu Maritime Bureau and the Nanjing Water Search and Rescue Center

were the organizer

The spillage of crude oil into the river may endanger the water quality of the water source area and

the safety of passing ships. After the occurrence of a dangerous situation, the ship will immediately

request the local shore emergency force to rescue it. The provincial and municipal water search and 

rescue centers started emergency plans and step by step reported when they received dangerous 

information. The search and rescue center coordinated the rescue boats and transported the cleaning

materials to the scene, and informed and rescued the member units to participate in the emergency

treatment according to the emergency plan notification.

Just as all disposals were proceeding in an orderly manner, the deck of the ship suddenly caught fire during

the oil spill disposal. The on site cleaning operations were immediately suspended. The fire monitoring vessel

immediately started the fire control gun to control the fire. After the professional fire fighting boats arrived at

the site, it used a water gun, blisters, and fire-fighting foam to initiate a total fire attack and successfully extinguished

the fire.

At the same time, the leaked goods in the "Beijiang No. 1" ship have been floating in the river surface, which

forming a pollution zone. The decontamination forces quickly rushed to the scene and carried out a controlled

decontamination of the pollution belt. Environmental monitoring personnel arrived at the water area synchronously

for sampling and monitoring. The environmental protection department also informed that the downstream water

plants were doing a good job of guarding against flooding. In the water intake, the oil boom is urgently deployed 

and water quality testing and monitoring were strengthened.

It is reported that this drill was involved the joint emergency handling of ships, shores and waters, covering all the

contents of the major accidents of dangerous goods, it was purposed to improve the water emergency disposal ability

of the Jiangsu.
