Recently, Panyu Maritime Department jointly cooperated with District Emergency Office,
District Transportation Bureau and other units to carry out water traffic safety emergency
drill, it was purposed to improve the water traffic safety emergency response capability
of the jurisdiction, effectively coordinate and mobilize water rescue forces, and form a
greater emergency response.
The drill was included two major contents, namely, the ferry water transportation
emergency treatment and the emergency treatment of oil spill pollution from the
ship. The address was selected in the waters opposite the Sansha Ferry of Shawan
Waterway in Panyu District. At 15:00 on the same day, the ships and personnel
were on standby at the designated locations, and all work was ready. At 15:30,
with the order of the chief commander, the drill was officially begun. The ferry
Guangzhou Ferry ××××” crossing the river was collided with the ascending oil
tanker “Guangzhou Oil ××××”, it was caused one person to fall into the water,
the stern of the ferry was damaged, and the oil was leaked. The accident ferry
and the tanker immediately rescued the drowning passengers and reported the
duty room of the Panyu Maritime Department. After received the report, Panyu
Maritime Department immediately launched an emergency response plan, ordered
the sea patrol boats to rescue quickly, and mobilized the clean-up ships and the
engineering ships to rush to the scene. After the ship arrived at the scene of the
accident, the passengers of the ferry will be safely transferred to the rescue vessel.
The clean-up ships will use the professional tools; they firstly deployed the oil booms
for controlling the oil pollution on the river surface and preventing the oil from
spreading. Then the oil absorbent pads will be used to clean the oil. All rescue
vessels were divided according to their duties and properly disposed. They were
sent and received by VHF intercoms, and the accident ferry and oil tanker were
smoothly towed to safe waters. The navigation of the waters returned to normal
and the river surface was restored.
