At 3:00 p.m. yesterday, the Dongguan City drinking water source water pollution
accident emergency drill was held in Qingxi Reservoir, Qingxi Town. Vice Mayor
Yu Lijun participated in the emergency drill. She emphasized that we need to
improve the emergency mechanism, exercise and improve the ability and quality
of the emergency team to ensure the safety of drinking water and ecological
environment in the city.
The emergency drill started at 3 p.m. yesterday. The drill was simulated a car
accident caused a diesel leak into the reservoir. The diesel polluted drinking
water source and seriously affected the drinking water safety of the
surrounding people. The Qingxi Reservoir immediately launched an emergency
plan and reported the situation to the Municipal Environmental Protection
Bureau within 5 minutes. After the Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau
requested the municipal government and then they immediately approved
the emergency plan for water pollution accidents of drinking water sources
in Dongguan. After five stages such as pre-disposal, emergency response,
on-site disposal, emergency termination, and after-treatment, they properly
disposed water pollution within one hour, and provided emergency protection
for drinking water, and completed information release to ensure the safety
of drinking water for surrounding people. They used oil absorbent pads
for clean up the oil.
Yu Lijun said that Dongguan has a single source of drinking water. 90% of
the city's drinking water depends on Dongjiang, which was involving the
lives and work of tens of millions of people. It is vital to ensure the safety
of drinking water sources. At present, the incentives for sudden incidents
affecting the safety of water sources are increasing. The whole city should
keep a clear head, further improve environmental emergency measures,
effectively eliminate environmental pollution accidents in the bud, and we
should ensure the safety of people's lives and property in the city, and
provide a solid guarantee for the healthy social and economic development.
